North Hunterdon-- Coach's Perspective

The Time Is Now – North Hunterdon Wrestling

When people talk about North Hunterdon Wrestling, the conversation inevitably turns to tradition. A rich history. A tight-knit community. Excellence on the mat. For years, this program has been synonymous with toughness, grit, and pride—something I’ve always admired from afar.

It may sound prophetic, but North Hunterdon was always in my sights.

Years ago, I responded to an email during a coaching search here. I still remember the reply I received. “Are you ready to leave the dark side?” A reference, of course, to my position at the time coaching at a non-public powerhouse. The timing wasn’t right—I had unfinished business and more to give where I was. But North Hunterdon never left my mind. I believe in timing. And now, the time is right.

I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be here. I didn’t come to rebuild; I inherited a program already thriving, already steeped in pride and success. North Hunterdon Wrestling isn’t just about winning—it’s about family, tradition, and representing a community that cares deeply about its athletes. From the Little Lions to the varsity room, the passion here is real.

Located in the heart of one of the most competitive wrestling regions in the country—Lehigh Valley Wrestling territory—there are no easy matches, no off days. But with great challenge comes great opportunity. With the resources, history, and support we have, I consider it my duty not just to uphold our legacy, but to elevate it.

At our recent USA NJ Wrestling Tournament in May, a parent approached me—one I didn’t know personally. He was complimentary about the success our team enjoyed this past season, but admitted something that made me smile. “I always rooted against you,” he said. “Nothing personal—just the Bergen Catholic thing.” Fair enough. But it was his last comment that really stuck with me:“You had a great season… but you’ll never be #1 again.”

That line didn’t sting—it fueled me. It reminded me exactly why I’m here. The challenge is out there. And we welcome it.

There are no limitations. And make no mistake—this isn’t about me being #1.It’s about us—the wrestlers, the coaches, the parents, the alumni, the fans. It’s about North Hunterdon Wrestling.

The time is now.Let’s get to work.
